On Friday, a police squad formed by IPS Teghbir Singh Sandhu raided a place and took into custody two people who were taking money from players to put the same in a gamble they were indulging in. The police said Shaikh Kaleem Shaikh Hasan, 42, a resident of Hilal Chowk, and the owner of the game Rafique Bhurya alias Pahelwan, a resident of Juna Azad Nagar, have been booked under Section 12 A of the Maharashtra Prevention of Gambling Act, 1887.
The cops recovered from them Rs 4,220 cash, a mobile phone and other materials used in gambling activity. The police said the SDPO, Malegaon City Sub-Division, IPS Teghbir Singh Sandhu had got a tip-off that some people were playing gamble in Mukundwadi Garden, Munshi Shaban Nagar under the jurisdiction of Azad Nagar Police.
Sandhu gathered his team of police officers and sent it to the identified location. On reaching there, the police said they found the accused were taking money from players and putting them in the gamble. The accused had given the title ‘Night Time Bazaar ‘ to the gambling activity they were undertaking, the police claimed.
The above action was taken under the guidance of Nashik SP Shahaji Umap and in supervision of Additional SP Aniket Bharati. The raiding team included PSI Paraji Waghmode, havaldar Sachin Dharankar, naik Imran Sayyed, constable Dinesh Sherawate, Sachin Bedale, and Prashant Bagul.
In a similar raid, cops recover Rs 20,990 cash
The police raided an open space beside Ekta Transport near Manmad Chowfuly on Mumbai-Agra highway. Shaikh Aqeel Saikh Saleem, Shahid Usman Ansari, Chandrakant Madhavrao Jadhav, Hanif Wali Mohd, Shaikh Rauf Shaikh Abdul, Vishwanath Sukhdev Khairnar were taken into custody from on the spot and Rs 20,990 cash was recovered from them, the police said.
The accused who were playing ’52 patti tash’ game for monetary gains have been booked under Section 12 A of Maharashtra Prevention of Gambling Act, 1887, the police said.
