IAS Dr Nitin Kareer, the newly-appointed Chief Secretary, hands a bouquet to outgoing Chief Secretary IAS Manoj Saunik (L).

Dr Nitin Kareer, the 1988-batch IAS officer of Maharashtra Cadre, today took charge as the 44th Chief Secretary of Maharashtra at a ceremony at the State Secretariat. Kareer assumed the responsibilities from IAS Manoj Saunik who retired today. In a career spanning decades, Kareer has held several key positions in the Maharashtra government’s administration.

His stints include that of a Collector, Divisional Commissioner, Inspector General of Registration, Additional Chief Secretary Finance, Additional Chief Secretary Revenue, Principal Secretary Urban Development and other key departments. Currently, he was working as Additional Chief Secretary Finance. 

Dr Kareer completed his MBBS degree. He was selected in the Indian Administrative Service in 1988. After that he worked as the Chief Executive Officer of Pune Zilla Parishad and then as Collector of Sangli and Pune districts.

He has also held the responsibility of various posts like Director General of Information and Public Relations, Inspector General of Registration, Pune Municipal Commissioner, Pune Divisional Commissioner. He has also served as Principal Secretary to Chief Minister, Sales Tax Commissioner, Settlement Commissioner.
