A man named Mujahid Mohd Saeed has been booked, for pronouncing Triple Talaq in one go,  under Sections 3 and 4 of the Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Act, 2019 after his wife Sajeda approached the officers at the Killa Police Station and narrated the incident and her ordeals to them. The accused has also been booked under Sections 115 (2), 351 (1), 351 (2), 352 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023.

According to the First Information Report (FIR) lodged in the case with CR No 0155/2024 at the Killa Police Station, the incident happened in the morning of August 19 over alleged ‘continuous pestering’ by the accused’s wife who had been asking her husband to earn a living. The aggrieved wife informed the police that in December 2017 she was married off with the accused and after that for two years she stayed along with her husband at her in-laws’ house with the father-in-law, mother-in-law and two brothers-in-law and one sister-in-law.

However, even after living two full years with them under one roof, she could not get well along with her in-laws and, as a result, left the place and shifted to a new rented house nearby with her husband. The family had been making a living by doing powerloom related works. The informant wife said in her information that she gave birth to a baby boy in 2020 and a baby girl in 2022 at the rented place.

However, as the time went by, the informant alleges her husband stopped working, which subsequently caused financial hardships in their nuclear family. She goes on to narrate that time and again she would ask her husband  to look for a source of living so that they can sustain themselves and their two kids.

The informant said her husband would abuse and use foul language against her whenever she urged him to search for work. He would also threaten him that he will give her Talaq, she alleged in the FIR. Once the informant wife sold her gold ear rings worth Rs 18,000 to pay the outstanding rents of their house. On August 19, when she again asked her husband to do some work for a living, he gave her Triple Talaq in one go.

After the incident, the informant wife came out of the house and gathered a few women from their neighbourhood and narrated to them what had happened. The women then confronted the accused husband and asked him whether he had given Talaq to her. The accused replied to them in the affirmative. Police Naik Anand Gawande has been conducting the investigation. He told The Voice of Malegaon that the accused has not been arrested yet as the officers involved in the case including him were on the bandobast duty. He said the arrest was likely to be made very soon.
