For the upcoming Ganeshotsav and Eid-e-Milad festivals, the Nashik Rural Police headed by IPS Vikram Deshmane have made foolproof security arrangements in the district to avoid any untoward incident and maintain the law and order. This year the police cannot afford to take any chances as recently massive protests over Baba Ramgiri Maharaj’s controversial statement erupted across the state. The ensuing situation slightly vitiated the peaceful atmosphere.
Additional Superintendent of Police Aniket Bharati said in Malegaon security forces have been deployed in large numbers given the sensitivity of the town and the past history of communal flareups on trivial issues. He added more than 1,200 security personnel will be deployed to man the streets during the Ganeshotsav which is being celebrated between September 7 and September 17 and also on the Eid-e-Milad.
Apart from Bharati himself, Assistant SP Suraj Gunjal and Assistant SP Teghbir Singh Sandu will be managing the police forces on the streets and closely monitoring the situation on the ground. “Besides the three of us, two probationary DYSPs from the Maharashtra Police Academy, Nashik, will be taking part in these tight security measures,” he said. A total of 11 Police Inspectors and 35 APIs including PSIs will form the contingent of the security men to be deployed to keep the city safe.
Besides, 425 male and female police ammaldars, 450 Home Guards, 2 Riot Control Squads, 2 SRPF units, a unit from the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad, 15 traffic police personnel will be manning the streets as well as managing the crowds, Bharati informed.
