This year a total of 933 candidates from all across the country have cleared the highly sought-after Civil Services examinations conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC). Of these, more than 70 are from Maharashtra alone who have achieved the remarkable feat.

Dr Kashmira Sankhe has come first in Maharashtra while securing a nationwide 25th rank. It must be noted that final results of the UPSC Main Examination 2022 were declared on Tuesday. Besides, more than 7 aspirants are from Maharashtra who have grabbed a position in the top 100.

A look at the result

The main examination was conducted in September 2022 for vacancies in various departments of the central government. Interviews were conducted between January-May 2023. A total of 933 candidates have been recommended for appointment to various posts.

This includes 345 candidates from Open category, 99 from Economically Backward Classes (EWS), 263 from Other Backward Classes (OBC), 154 from Scheduled Castes (SC), 72 from Scheduled Tribes (STs).

Total successful candidates include 41 disabled candidates (14 Orthopedically Handicapped, 07 Visually Impaired, 12 Hearing Impaired and 08 Multiple Handicapped). Public Service Commission has prepared a reserve list of 178 candidates. This includes General Group – 89, Economically Backward Class (EWS)- 28, Other Backward Class-52, Scheduled Caste- 05, Scheduled Tribe-04 candidates.

Candidates will apply for these vacancies

Government has total 180 vacancies in the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) service space. These include General Group (Open) – 75, Economically Backward Classes (EWS) 18, Other Backward Classes (OBC) – 45, Scheduled Castes (SC) – 29, Scheduled Tribes (ST) – 13 seats are vacant. The successful candidates will be selected for vacancies based on merit.

There are 38 vacancies in Indian Foreign Service (IFS) service category. These include General Group (Open) – 15, Economically Backward Classes (EWS) 04, Other Backward Classes (OBC) – 10, Scheduled Castes (SC) – 06, Scheduled Tribes (ST). – 03 seats are vacant.

Similarly, Indian Police Service (IPS) has a total of 200 vacancies, of which 83 are from General Category (Open), 20 from Economically Backward Category (EWS), 53 from Other Backward Category, 31 from Scheduled Caste Category, while From Scheduled Tribe category – 13 candidates will be appointed.

Central Service Group A – Total – 473 vacancies in this service. In this, 201 candidates will be appointed from General category (Open), 45 from Economically Backward Category (EWS), 122 from Other Backward category, 69 from Scheduled Caste category and 36 from Scheduled Tribe category.

Central Service Group B – Total – 131 vacancies in this service. In this, 60 candidates will be appointed from General Category (Open), 12 candidates from Economically Backward Category (EWS), 33 from Other Backward Category, 19 from Scheduled Caste category and 07 candidates from Scheduled Tribe category.

Out of a total of 933 candidates, 613 men and 320 women have been recommended by the Commission for appointment to various services, while the selection of 101 candidates will be temporary.
