Merely three days before the assault, a person with a fake ID started stalking the eighteen-year-old acid attack victim and sent her unsolicited messages on WhatsApp, said a policeman who did not wish to be named while adding that the police were now trying to ascertain whether the arrested accused Hasiburrahman Tufail Ahmed was the same person who had sent these uninvited messages to her.
The Killa Police led by Police Inspector Shivaji Doifode, who is also the Investigating Officer in the case, are conducting a thorough investigation and are looking into the fateful incident from each and every angle and trying to unearth the truth behind this inhumane act. The policeman quoted above added that the impersonator himself initiated his advances on the social media and tried to engage her in a communication on the chatting app.
The dastardly incident of acid attack occurred at around 2:30 am on September 04 when the victim Momin Mariyam Fatema was sleeping in her house along with her father Luqman Ahmed and mother Nusad Parveen, according to the First Information Report (FIR) filed by the victim at the Killa Police Station. She adds in the FIR that her uncle Irfan Ahmed, aunt Naveeda and their son Awais and the grandmother all stay together in the house as a combined family.
Preliminary investigations reveal that the attacker threw the acid from the window of the house and then fled from the scene. The victim adds in the FIR that in the wee hours of the fateful day when they all were in deep sleep she felt a liquid like substance was thrown at her face. However, when she regained her senses she felt strong burning sensation on her entire face. The victim then called out to her mother for help. The mother and father duo on hearing her cries woke up and after a few seconds realised that they too were under acid attack as they also felt the burning sensation on their faces.
In less than twenty-four hours of the incident, the Killa Police lead by PI Doifode with the help of the officers of the Detection Branch (DB) got a breakthrough, made an arrest and picked up Hasiburrahman, the young suspect, who lives in the same locality a few meters away from the victim’s house. All the three acid attack victims are recuperating at the General Hospital, Malegaon.
On September 05, the arrested accused was produced before a court that remanded him to police custody till September 11, said Adv A I Wasif who is intervening in the matter on behalf of the victim girl. Adv Wasif while talking to the mediapersons said he will fight for the victim girl free of cost and help her get speedy justice. He added the mother, father and the victim girl trio was badly injured in the acid attack. The Killa Police have filed a case under Sections 124(1), 124(2), and 333 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023. The first two sections are related to damage or deformity caused due to acid attack and the third section is about house trespass after preparation for hurt, assault or wrongful restraint.
