Now you can get an order for birth and death registration from Tehsildar if your records with your local body are not traceable or there has been a delay on your part in doing the same. Earlier, the courts were competent authority to issue such order but of late the burden of this work has been taken off their shoulders.

Tehsildar Nitinkumar Deore said District Magistrate IAS Jalaj Sharma has authorised all the fifteen Executive Magistrates (Tehsildars) in Nashik district to take up the project on a large scale.  With this, citizens who were facing hardships as regards birth and death registration will heave a big sigh of relief.

“This new arrangement has been put in place after the Registration of Births and Deaths (Amendment) Act, 2023 recently came into effect,” Deore told The Voice of Malegaon. He added in the amended Act under Section 13 (Sub-Section 2 & 3) the District Magistrate, a Sub-Divisional Magistrate and an Executive Magistrate all have been made competent authority to issue such order.

Tehsildar Deore has appealed citizens not to fall prey to the lure of the middlemen and agents for getting an order for birth and death registration. “They can do this work by themselves or hire the services of an advocate. Earlier, the citizens had to shell out Rs 1,500 to Rs 2,000 for getting an order from the court. Now they can get this work done by paying the prescribed government fee,” he said.
