An Additional Sessions Court here on Friday convicted three people for duping nine youth of Rs 26,40,000 on false promise of placing them in a job position at Hotel Indigo in London. District Judge I and Additional Sessions Judge S B Bahalkar awarded seven years’ rigorous imprisonment and Rs 11 lakh fine each to Tahsina Abdul Mutallib and Anita Sadanand Salian.

The duo will have to spend one more year in jail if they fail to pay the fine. Tahsina is from Bajrangwadi, Malegaon while Anita comes from Versova Village, Andheri West.  Third person Shaikh Mohd Sameer Fakir Mohd alias Honey Singh was awarded three years’ rigorous imprisonment and Rs 5 lakh fine. Singh is from Kalyan Phata, Thane. He will have to spend six more months in jail if he fails to pay the fine.

We examined as many as 18 witnesses and presented a watertight case before the court. We also made strong argument to secure maximum punishment. The court accepted our argument and based on that delivered its judgement, Advocate Ashok N Pagare, Additional Public Prosecutor

In 2016, all the three accused were booked under Sections 420, 467, 468, 471, 34 and 120B of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). Besides, Section 3 of  the Maharashtra Protection of Interest of Depositors (In Financial Establishments) Act, 1999 was also slapped on them.

A case was registered at Azad Nagar Police Station with CR No 94/2016 based on one Arif Ahmed Altaf Ahmed’s report. From November 15, 2015 to August 25, 2016, the trio lured the victims and took money from them for non-existing job vacancies in London. The victims were shown fake vacancy advertisements of office assistant and other staff at Hotel Indigo, London.

They also showed fake job agreements to the victims. The prosecution said the trio took money for conducting medical check-ups, doing paper works at labour and immigration department. They also took money for processing visa applications and booking air tickets etc.
