The Malegaon Municipal Corporation is all set to present its Budget 2023-24 at a time when all its elected representatives are hoping for a re-election as the previous general body was dissolved with its term coming to an end early last year. Since then, Commissioner Bhalchandra Gosavi has been overseeing the day-to-day works at the civic body as its Administrator, after a notification from the state government was issued.
The MMC chief today conducted a pre-Budget brainstorming session with all the heads of various departments. Gosavi who was in the chair of the Presiding Officer clearly asked all the HoDs to focus on improving civic amenities. He gave them clear instructions to insert provisions in the Budget for smoothing of roads.
We are trying our level best to incorporate in the Budget key suggestions made by the elected representatives. Besides, this year our main objective will be to increase the total revenue by around Rs 60-70 crore. Of late, the civic body has received many representations from people as well as their elected representatives underlining the plight of the roads and how people are facing lots of difficulties due to roads in bad condition. “In this backdrop, we have asked the department concerned to give special attention to roads,” he said.
A proposal to enhance libraries through purchase of more books was mooted to which Gosavi gave a thumping response and asked officials to make ample provision for the same in the Budget. At today’s meeting, MMC officials took up for discussion the revised Budget 2022-23 and the upcoming Budget 2023-24.
