Nashik SP IPS Shahaji Umap has given Rs 25,000 prize to the investigating police team that has cracked the case.
In less than two weeks after a headless body of a youth was found by Saikheda Police, the cops helped by the Local Crime Branch (LCB) sleuths have cracked the murder mystery and taken into custody five accused in the case. On February 07, 2023, the police recovered a headless body of an unidentified youth from near Ganganagar Devi Mandir at Godavari river bed in Saikheda. At this stage the cops were clueless and were groping in the dark.
But as they say the law has long arms, soon they caught hold of the suspects by using the ‘long arms’ of the law. Nashik SP Shahaji Umap said during the initial course of investigation it was revealed that the killers after murdering the victim chopped off his head from the body to hide his identity and dodge the police.
However, the yellow rubber band found on the corpse led the cops to the accused after the police made a thorough enquiry about it in areas in and around Saikheda and Nashik.
Accused Sharad and Aleem worked as saldars in co-accused Jagdish and Sandeep’s farm. Jagdish’s son Yogesh is also an accused. Victim Hitesh worked in the farm. The farm owners helped accused No 1 & 2 dispose off victim’s headless body. They feared if the crime got leaked out to the public, in future no one will come to work in their farm, IPS Shahaji Umap, Nashik SP
The killers then placed the headless body in a sack, tied it with a wire and then dumped the sack with body into Godavari river from the bridge atop, Umap said. The accused Sharad Vasant Shinde (33), Aleem Lateef Shaikh (20), Jagdish Bhaskar Sangamnere, Sandeep Bhaskar Sangamnere (45), Yogesh Jagdish Sangamnere (24) have been taken into custody.
The police said on the night of February 07, 2023, Hitesh and Sharad had a fight over buying of a mobile phone. Angered by this, victim Hitesh had threatened Sharad and Aleem of dire consequences and said that he will call his friends from Nashik and then see both of them.
After this heated argument, accused Aleem allegedly hit Hitesh on his head with an iron rod, the police said. The victim then fell on the ground and died on the spot. The accused then cut his head off the body and then disposed both the parts, the police said.
