As part of their joint operation, a team comprising the squad led by IPS Teghbir Singh Sandhu and cops from Pawarwadi police station yesterday seized 26 cow progeny animals allegedly being kept for slaughter in an open area surrounded by thorny bushes in Daregaon Shivar, the police said.
Apart from seizing the animals, the cops have also taken with them two motorcycles recovered from the spot as a result of the raid. Seven persons namely Shahrukh Khan, Sayyed Rashid, Shaikh Mohsin, Arshad, Waseem, Kaleem, Farooq Member have been booked under Section 5 (b) of the Maharashtra Animal Preservation (Amendment) Act, 1995 and Section 11 of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960. The police claimed all the accused persons were storing these animals for the purpose of monetary gains.
We had a solid tip-off that some persons were illegally keeping cow breed animals for monetary gains at the given location. We alerted our team that swung into action and then conducted the raid leading to a recovery worth ₹ 3,51,000. Ever since IPS Teghbir Singh Sandhu took charge as Assistant SP in October last year, he has launched a massive crackdown on illegal activities such as unauthorised sale of drug Alprazolam (kutta goli), illicit transportation or storage of animals of cow progeny. Sandhu through strict action has also ensured that establishments do not violate the 11pm deadline granted under the Maharashtra Police Act, 1951.
Sandhu’s jurisdiction comprises areas under five police stations namely City, Azad Nagar, Ayesha Nagar, Ramzanpura and Pawar Wadi police stations. Yesterday’s raid was conducted under the guidance of Nashik District SP Shahaji Umap and Malegaon Additional SP Aniket Bharati.
From Sandhu’s squad API Paraji Waghmode, constables Dinesh Sherawate, Prashant Bagul, Sachin Bedade took part in the raid. Besides, a team of Pawarwadi police station with PI S B Patil, API Raut, API Shaikh, PSI More, havaldars Dharankar, Jagtap, naiks Sangale, Gangurde, constables Shelar, Rathod, actively participated in the raid.
