An Additional Sessions Court here today awarded life sentence to and slapped a fine of Rs 22,000 on a man who brutally murdered his lover in 2016. The slain victim had refused to give him Rs 30 for buying liquor, the prosecution said.
Judge S U Baghele found the accused Kalu Uttam Sonawane (37) guilty of murder under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). The judge also found him guilty under Section 201 of the IPC and awarded him a five years’ rigorous imprisonment and Rs 2,000 fine separately.

The prosecution said Sonawane and the deceased Jabnabai Uttam Pawar knew each other and were in a relationship. Once he took the victim to Surat for cutting sugar cane in a field. He would often beat the victim under the influence of alcohol, the prosecution said.
On occasions, he would forcefully take the slain victim out with him. On February 17, 2016, Sonawane demanded Rs 30 from her for buying alcohol. As she refused, he got angry and beat her up black and blue on her head, face, chest and abdomen. As a result she died.
A case with CR No 36/2019 (Station Case No 28/2016) was registered at the Satana Police Station based on information of one Nandu Gangaram Sonawane. Investigating Officer PSI Krishna Ghayvat had filed the chargesheet after a thorough probe.
